Bangalore based Narayana Hrudayalaya has won
the 2013 FT ArcelorMittal Boldness in
Business awards.
Hosted by the Financial
Times editor Lionel Barber and Lakshmi
Mittal, chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal,
the awards recognise outstanding examples of
companies taking bold decisions and creating
profitable and socially useful enterprises
to drive change and innovation on a global
scale.
Narayana Hrudayalaya currently runs 6,000
beds across 20 hospitals in eleven cities.
In his acceptance speech Dr Devi Shetty, the
founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya, said that
his dream is to "make affordable quality
healthcare accessible to masses worldwide".
After the awards Dr Shetty explained about
his work and vision the editor of NRIfm,
Vijay Rana. On winning the award Dr Shetty

Ethics and values of the Tata

Dr JJ Irani, the Director of Tata Sons,
recently spoke at the Initiatives of
Change Conference in Caux, Switzerland
on the subject Trust and Integrity in
the Global Business. He demonstrated how
the House of Tatas have applied

On Indira Gandhi and investments in India
He was a close friend of the
late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In
1978 when out of power he helped to arrange
Mrs Gandhi's visit to Britain. Analysts saw
it the beginning of her political comeback.
Then he tried to invest in prestigious
Indian companies like Escorts and DCM but
had to make a retreat due to the combined
resistance of India's big business houses.
He says he was ahead of time. in 1983,
Indian businesses were scared of foreign
investors.
