Mahal:
The
heavenly
home of a
queen on
earth
|
Ebba Koch,
the
professor of
Art History
at the
University
of Vienna,
has spent
more than 30
years
studying
the palaces
of the
Mughal king
Shah Jahan.
She is the
first
western
scholar
since
India's
independence
permitted to
take
measurements
of Taj Mahal
and
surrounding
buildings.
In her book
'The
Complete Taj
Mahal' she
leads the
reader on a
walk of the
river Yamuna
rediscovering
palace
gardens of
imperial
family and
great nobles
that lined
both sides
of the
river. In
this most
detailed
study of Taj
Mahal she
says that
Shah Jahan
wanted Taj
Mahal to
look like
his
beautiful
Queen Mumtaj
Mahal's home
in paradise.
Prof Koch
tells the
story of her
remarkable
research.
